Terms of Service

By creating an account or using Lumen, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree with something here, please don't use Lumen — and feel free to write to us first, because we'd rather hear the objection than lose you quietly.

If you use Lumen on behalf of a company or team, you confirm you're allowed to accept these Terms for that organization.

Lumen is a personal knowledge base and notes product. You capture notes and pages, organize them with tags and properties, keep checklists, action items, and reminders, attach files and audio as sources, and use AI features to summarize, ask questions, and draft.

Lumen is designed for individual thinking and working rather than public publishing. Features change as the product improves, and we may add, adjust, or retire parts of it over time.

You need an account to use Lumen, and you must be at least 18 years old. Lumen is not directed to anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly create accounts for them.

• Give accurate account information and keep it current.
• Keep your password and sign-in method private — activity through your account is treated as yours.
• Tell us at legal@lumenpkm.com if you think someone else has access to your account.

Everything you write, upload, or generate in Lumen stays yours. We claim no ownership over your notes, pages, files, audio, or the outputs you create with AI features.

To actually operate the product, you give Lumen a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, copy, transmit, process, and display your content — only as needed to provide the service to you, deliver the features you ask for, keep backups, prevent abuse, and improve how Lumen works. This license exists so buttons like save, search, sync, export, and AI can function. It ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from short-lived backups and anything we must keep to meet a legal obligation.

We do not use your notes or uploads to train AI models. See the Privacy Policy for how content moves through the product.

Lumen is a quiet, private workspace, and these rules keep it that way. Please don't:

• Store or share content that is illegal, or that infringes someone else's rights.
• Use Lumen to harass, threaten, defraud, or endanger anyone.
• Attempt to break, overload, probe, or reverse engineer the service, or bypass security, rate limits, or access controls.
• Scrape, resell, or redistribute Lumen or its AI features as your own product.
• Misuse AI features — for example, to generate malware, targeted harassment, deceptive impersonation, or content designed to evade safety systems.
• Share account access in a way that circumvents plan limits.

If something you want to do isn't clearly covered here, ask us. Most questions have a simple answer.

Lumen's AI features can summarize notes, answer questions about your sources, draft text, transcribe audio, and surface connections. When you use them, relevant note or source content is sent to AI providers so the requested feature can run.

AI output can be incomplete, outdated, or simply wrong, and it can sound confident while being both. Treat it as a draft or a starting point rather than a verified answer. You remain responsible for reviewing AI output and for any decision you make based on it, especially anything legal, medical, financial, or otherwise consequential. Lumen does not provide professional advice.

When you add files, documents, images, or audio to a note, you confirm you have the rights to that material and any permission needed to process it in Lumen.

Recordings deserve extra care. If a conversation, meeting, lecture, or interview involves other people, it's on you to have their consent where the law or plain courtesy requires it. We can't verify consent on your behalf, and we ask that you assume responsibility for it.

Some parts of Lumen may be free while others require a paid plan. Plans, included features, usage limits, and pricing may change as the product develops.

If we introduce or change paid plans, we'll describe what's included, what it costs, and how billing works before you're charged. Any specific billing terms presented at checkout apply alongside these Terms.

Lumen — the software, design, interface, documentation, name, logo, and brand — belongs to us and our licensors. These Terms don't transfer any of it to you beyond the right to use the service as intended.

You're welcome to write about Lumen, screenshot it, and recommend it. Please don't imply an endorsement or partnership that doesn't exist, or use our brand in a way that could confuse people about who made what.

If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them to improve Lumen without obligation. We appreciate them more than you'd guess.

You can stop using Lumen whenever you like, and you can delete your account from Settings. Deleting your account removes your notes, pages, uploads, and account data from the live service, apart from short-lived backups and anything we're legally required to keep. Before you go, you can export your content.

On our side, we'd much rather talk to you than lock you out. If something looks wrong with an account, our first step is normally to reach out or limit a specific feature. We may suspend or end access when there's serious abuse, illegal activity, a genuine security or privacy risk to other people, a repeated or severe violation of these Terms, or a legal requirement that leaves us no choice.

Where we can, we'll tell you what happened, what we need, and how to restore access — and we'll give you a reasonable path to retrieve your content unless the law or the safety of others prevents it. We may also discontinue Lumen or a significant part of it; if that ever happens, we'll give notice and time to export your work.

We work hard to keep Lumen reliable, but no service is perfect. Lumen is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We don't promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that AI output will be accurate, or that it will meet every need you have.

Please keep your own copies of anything you can't afford to lose. Export is built in for exactly that reason.

To the extent permitted by law, Lumen and the people who build it are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, or lost goodwill, arising from your use of the service.

Where liability can't be excluded, our total liability for any claim relating to Lumen is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred US dollars. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, in which case only the limitations permitted there apply to you.

You agree to be responsible for claims that arise from content you put into Lumen or from your use of the service in breach of these Terms.

Our Privacy Policy describes what we collect, how AI features process note content, how long things are kept, and the choices you have. It's part of your agreement with us, so it's worth a read alongside these Terms.

Lumen keeps evolving, so these Terms may change too. When they do, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page, and for meaningful changes we'll give notice in the app or by email before they take effect.

Continuing to use Lumen after a change means you accept the updated Terms. If you'd rather not, you can export your content and close your account.
